This was served at the annual cul-de-sac Labor Day ward breakfast in 2005 organized by Karl and Gaye Marrott and has been served at each Labor Day breakfast since. It is fabulous—you will find yourself wanting to drink any syrup that is leftover.
- 1/2 cup (or more for thinner syrup) buttermilk
- 1 cup sugar (white or brown)
- 1 stick butter
- 1/2 tsp. baking soda
- 1 tsp. vanilla maple or flavoring (The vanilla gives the syrup a delicate flavor and some people prefer it.)
